Wireless technology is a great option for portability. With wireless cards and other devices that allow you to connect to the Internet without a cable plug in, you can access the Internet from anywhere. Many businesses and homes set up wireless networks as a solution to those outdated cables that can become inconveniently tangled.
You can even access wireless networks at airports, in Internet cafes and in hotels and motels with wireless availability. With this technology come more security issues since these wireless connections are relatively easy to penetrate for a hacker.
The solution to this is wireless network sniffing software that allows you to customize wireless connections security settings. Wireless networks usually use the 802.11 a, b, or g connections. When purchasing a wireless card, make sure the connection is compatible with the card. These days, they are mostly b or g connections which are much faster than was the case a while back.
Many times the wireless connections in hotels and motels are unsecure networks, consequently the settings would need to be changed if you choose to connect to the unsecured connection. This is a matter of personal preference and/or the need to be connected at that time. Some hotels and motels offer secured connections that require a password to access that is given to you at the time of check in. If the hotel/motel has an unsecured connection, you can use your wifi network sniffing software to provide your computer with the security you need to keep yourself safe from intruders. Wireless technology is not just for connecting to the Internet. Many devices are wireless now. Wireless printer networks allow you to print from your computer no matter where you are in a given vicinity. There are more limitations on the printer for the range covered for wireless printing. This depends on the wireless printer and application for which it is used. Wireless technology offers a better solution for surfing, email and file sharing, as long as wi fi network sniffing software is there to protect you from unwanted intrusions. Keeping your computer safe from unsecured networks will save you a lot of headaches in the long run.
